A Great Success and More To Come

Laguna Generational Jive

On October 1st more than 200 people attended the Artists Theater to hear the LBHS and Thurston Middle School combined Jazz Band perform with professional musicians and alumni in a jazz tribute concert.  Organized by local musicians Steve and Beth Wood of Honk, the concert brought together current and former members of the jazz band to collaborate and explore the connections between jazz styles and influential performers.  Former students and professional musicians Phill Gough, Dan Reckard and Billy Mohler shared the stage with many talented current students and Jazz Band Director Steve Wade, performing jazz standards from George Gershwin to Hoagy Carmichael and Jimi Hendrix to Norah Jones.  Sharing great stories from his extensive musical career, Steve Wood explained: “Music is a language and like all languages you learn it best in the country it’s spoken…tonight we thought we’d bring the country to you.”  Proceeds from the concert support the free Music & Kids programs offered in the schools by Laguna Beach Live!
