A native of Japan Mr. Isamu Nakashio began his guitar studies at an early age, and he has an extensive background in performance and teaching. He received his Bachelor’s degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and completed two masters of music degrees from Yale University in New Haven and Mannes College of Music in New York. He also received four diplomas from the International Sommeracademie Mozarteum in Salzburg. Mr. Nakashio has studied for several summers in Domain Forget in Canada with David Russell and Manuel Barrueco, his teachers include Niel Anderson, David Leisner, Fredric Hand, and Benjamin Verdery.
As a performer, he has performed at many places internationally including Italy, Austria, Canada, and Japan in addition to performances throughout the US including his solo recital debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York in 1998. Mr. Nakashio made his CD debut from Eroica Record in 2002.
Mr. Nakashio has been the winner of numerous awards and scholarships including the prestigious Irving Giolmore Scholarship from Yale University, the Artist’s International Special Presentation Award, and the DÁddario Foundation for Performing Arts Scholarship. Currently, he is on the faculty at Cerritos College and Santa Ana College.
