Duo Gliss founded by two professional harpists, Hee Jin Yoon and Ko Ni Choi, are very active as a multi- faceted classical performers and teachers in Los Angeles, CA. They have performed with numerous groups including the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra and Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Duo Gliss focuses on expanding harp music and educating young musicians. In Fall 2016, they have founded Los Angeles Youth Harp Ensemble (LYHE) where they coach and train young talented harpists in the Greater Los Angeles area. In December 2016, LYHE successfully finished their first season of concerts in Redondo Beach Library and Villa Sorrento. As a professional harp duo, Duo Gliss is working closely with composers of many genres to record, publish, and transcribe new pieces for the harp. Through special recognition of their talent at the 2016 Beverly Hills National Audition, Duo Gliss had many performances including Laguna Beach Live! Music Series and Redondo Beach Chamber Music.
Hee Jin Yoon is very active as a soloist, orchestra musician, chamber musician and teacher in Los Angeles & Orange County, California. She is co-founder of Flute and Harp Duo Dolce with flutist Hye Sung Choe and Duo Gliss harp duo with Ko-Ni Choi. In 2016, Duo Gliss have founded Los Angeles Youth Harp Ensemble where they coach and train young talented harpists in the Greater Los Angeles and Orange County area. She has performed at Logan, Utah for American Harp Society Summer Institute 2015 as a member of Los Angles Harp Ensemble. Yoon was principal harpist of Lancaster Festival Orchestra from 2008 to 2015 and has played in the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. Recently, she has played with the dream orchestra of LA, Cal State Fullerton Orchestra and many other orchestras in California. Yoon grew up in Seoul, Korea and received a Bachelor’s degree from the Seoul National University in harp performance. She came to United States in 2004 and earned a Master of Music degree in 2006 from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music as a student of Gillian Benet Sella of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. She also received a Performer Diploma from the Indiana University with the distinguished Professor, Susann McDonald. Currently, she is a doctoral candidate in harp performance at University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. She won Concerto Competition at University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music in 2012. She received Honorable mention in the Victor Salvi Awards in 2007. As a soloist, she has performed Debussy’s Danse sacrée et profane with Lancaster Festival Orchestra, Mozart’s Concerto for Flute and Harp in C Major, K. 299 with CCM Philharmonic Orchestra, Handel’s Concerto Op.4 No.6 with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro and Lutoslawski’s Concerto for Oboe and Harp with the CCM Concert Chamber Orchestra. As a teacher, she maintains her private teaching studio since 2007 and she was on harp instructor at God’s Bible College in Cincinnati from 2009-2012. In 2012, she moved to Los Angeles, CA with her husband and two dachshunds. She continues her career as a harpist to share her music with colleagues, audiences, composers and students.
Ko Ni Choi a harpist praised by The Philadelphia Inquirer as an artist of “naturalistic, theatrical sense of flourish,” has concertized extensively throughout North America, Europe, Japan, and Korea. She was a prizewinner at Concours Intenationaux de la Ville de Paris, Nippon International Harp Competition, and Korean Chamber Orchestra Competition. Choi has been featured as a soloist with numerous orchestras including Banff Festival Orchestra, Hungarian Chamber Philharmonic, Wieniawski Philharmonic, and Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) “Opening Concert” Orchestra.Choi has also performed as a member of the following orchestras: the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Novus NY, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and “Fantasticks” the world’s longest running musical in New York. Through these performances she had an opportunity to work very closely with renowned conductors and composers including Simon Rattle and Charles Dutoit. Choi has been invited to participate at various music festivals including: the Banff Summer Music Festival, the Festival of the Sound in Parry Sound, the Gyoto Music Festival, and the New York Summer Music Festival. Choi has studied at The Curtis Institute of Music, The Glenn Gould School at The Royal Conservatory of Music, and University of Southern California. While at these institutions, she had the privilege of studying under renowned artists including, Judy Loman, a former principal of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Elizabeth Hainen, a principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and JoAnn Turovsky, a principal of Los Angeles Opera and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Currently, Choi resides in Los Angeles, California, USA, with her husband, newborn son, and dog. She continues with her passion for music as a soloist, a chamber musician, an orchestral performer, and a teacher. Choi is a teaching artist at the Young Musician's Foundations in Los Angeles. She is a co-founder and a member of duoKYaria, flute and harp duo, recent winner of the Beverly Hill National Audition 2015, Beverly Hill, California, USA.
