Dave and Larry Koonse, father and son, Generations of excellence on guitar, both are veterans of the national performing scene and the LA studios.
Dave has worked with George Shearing, Red Norvo, Peggy Lee, Les Elgart, and Benny Goodman all of whom he traveled with extensively. In the course of Dave's career he has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Academy of Music, the Sydney Opera House, and countless other prestigious venues. Dave has also performed with many orchestras all over the world including the Boston Pops and the Philadelphia Orchestra. In recent times Dave has been a working member of both the Buddy Collette Quintet and the Clayton-Hamilton Big Band. Dave's reputation as a sensitive and solid accompanist has caused him to be in constant demand around town as a sideman in jazz venues and festivals.
Larry has worked with singers Cleo Laine and Mel Torme; saxophonists Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh, and Bob Sheppard; clarinetist Eddie Daniels; pianists Jimmy Rowles and Terry Trotter; bassists Charlie Haden and Herbie Lewis; drummer Billy Higgins, trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, harmonica master Toots Thielemanns and many others. Larry has appeared on many of these artists albums and has been a featured soloist with the L. A. Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Pops, and many other orchestras throughout the United States, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. In his travels Larry has appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Academy of Music, the Sydney Opera House, the Lincoln Center, and many other prestigious venues. Larry is currently a faculty member at the California Institute of the Arts.
